All Aboard!!

I channeled my inner 1940's fashionista for our trip to the Pearl Harbor Memorial.

1940's Beach Wear:

My Modern Twist:

I fell in love with the shirt when I tried it on at the store without a cami.
I think it accentuates the waist nicely and I absolutely adore the sleeves and buttons.
The sleeves sort of wing out by the wrists and  makes arm movement so fun!

I put a black camisole under neath because we were going out in public.. and I did not want to offend old veterans and other civilians.

Shirt: Carole Little Vintage @  Goodwill $1.50 (it was on sale 50%)
Shorts: Calvin Klein $3.00 @ Local Thrift Store (similar look can be found here)

Pictures from the tour:
(these pictures would have looked better if I had the artsy ability of insta.gram - darn android)
Since I didn't want to spend hours in Photoshop, I wore out the sepia button out..

Meet Herb Weatherwax,  WWII and Pearl Harbor Survivor.
Cutest fella on the whole Island!

"All Aboard The U.S.S Bowfin!"
for $7.50

Darn hair-tie ruins the picture..

A old poster of 'the perfect women' that the old crew had all signed.

Till Tomorrow, Aloha!

Island Shots

Today I snapped a few shots of the beautiful sunset, the colors inspired me to go search for these colors on my next thrift hunt.

I would love to find a orange sunset colored jacket or skirt!

Some cute beach pics that inspire me:

Zooey Deschanel showing that modest is hottest!

Beautiful shot of a kimono-esque cover up!
I have one like this that I actually brought with me to the island!

Maybe if I can put my big girl panties on and be okay with people looking at me weird as I 'model' I will take some with it.

I love the vintage lighting and her hair.

Tomorrow we are going to tour some Pearl Harbor sights -- I will have camera in hand :)

Dainty Day

For dinner I decided to get all dressed up.
I really enjoy getting ready and looking put together so I had a blast doing my hair and make-up.

But my favorite part was of course, my outfit.

(why yes, this was taken in the bathroom at my hotel)

I have been trying to slowly bring more color and pastel-ish tones into my wardrobe.

(also, everything I will be posting this week besides the bathing suits, was thrifted)

Shirt - a vintage find at Curio, it was free because I had store credit
Skirt - $1.50 Xhileration (from the kids section) but I found it at Goodwill with the tags still on it

So all in all excluding my shoes (which were from target and bought two seasons ago) this outfit cost me $1.50

--x--

We went to a fabulous restaurant called Assiago's and I had the most delicious fish dish ever!

It was Fish Alla Piccata; the fish was Opah, also known as moonfish.

Day 1 in Hawaii - No sunburn!

It's a Wrap

So as a avid thrift store shopper, and clothes enthusiast, I take pride in my enlarging wardrobe and vast bathing suit selection.

(I think I probably own over 20 bathing suits.)
"Hi my name is Kayla, and I am addicted to swimwear"

As I started to pack for my Hawaii Trip, my mother found it amusing that the only thing's I had brought from school were my suits.

No summer clothes.

"This is just not okay!" I exclaimed.

So my mom was joking around and said I should just start turning my scarves into beach-ey pieces.

"Challenge Accepted"

-disclaimer-
I am in a swim suit

So the scarf I used was one given to me by a woman that lived across the street from me.
It was a little.. much for my taste but I hoarded it and kept it out of the 'giveaway' pile.

ALAS! I have use for it.

So its not exactly a cover up.. but I thought it looked really cool and bohemian, and I ended up packing it with me.

weirdly enough.. my mom said I should show a view of how it was tied
(so.awkward.)

Extreme Close Up (well hello there.. )

I had a lot of fun putting together this 'What if your suitcase gets lost and all you have are bottoms and a scarf'  scenario outfit.

Im still undecided if I will be blogging from the islands -- Should I?

Well this post is a 'wrap'
(pun intended)
